A WKF delegation leaded by the WKF President, Antonio Espinos and composed by the General Secretary, George Yerolimpos, the Sports Director, Tommy Morris and the members of the WKF Athletes Commission, Tessy Scholtes and Davide Benetello presented the candidature of the WKF and karate for the 2016 Olympic Games to the IOC Executive Board in Lausanne on the afternoon of Monday June 15th . The whole team arrived on Saturday in Lausanne and was working in the preparation of the last details of the presentation.
Previously on Sunday, a rehearsal took place in IOC Headquarters, where all the technical details and other issues were revised.
The presentation was well received by the IOC Executive Board; it was covering all aspects of both the World Karate Federation and of the sport of Karate, including the added value that Karate will give to the Olympic Program and vice-versa, and also the impact that the Olympism of Karate will have on the push of the social values of Karate worldwide. Other outstanding features highlighted were the universality of the sport and the simplicity and low cost that the incorporation of Karate to the Games would suppose.
Now the IOC Executive Board will meet again in Berlin on the 13th of August and will decide what 2 sports (maximum) from the 7 candidates it will propose and submit to the Copenhagen IOC Session for approval; this will take place on the 9th of October."
